Today I experienced my first runaway bride . . . well, sort of. Unlike Julia Roberts in the movie this bride chose to runaway with her groom.

rose-jonathan-1blogThe wedding day festivities began bright and early for Rose, Jonathan, and their faithful wedding party as the crew readied themselves at the starting line of the Ocean Isle Beach Oyster Festival 5K/10K road race. Running a 5K wasn’t initially part of the plan, but for these avid triathletes finding out there was a wedding day race less than a half a mile from their beach house was too tempting to resist. This naturally lead to the printing of race day wedding t-shirts and some friendly competition. Friends and family that chose not to run lined the finish line to cheer them on. What a fun and memorable way to start a new life together!

Brooke & Shane #1(Blog)Brooke & Shane #2(Blog)All weddings are special, but this one was especially memorable for me and the entire Beachside Occasions crew.  After three years of creating beautiful ceremonies for other people, Shane traded in his shovel and t-shirt for a suit and a spot on the pavilion as the groom at this Ocean Isle Beach wedding.

I have to admit Paul and I both cringed a bit when Shane first asked us for the third Saturday in September.  Though his request came nearly two years in advance that weekend is always one of our most popular dates and we knew this would mean giving up a lot of business.   Yes, we often perform two weddings on Saturdays, but we decided to block his date so we could both witness Shane’s big day.  Shane you must be a good friend because over the next 18 months we turned down 5 brides!Brooke & Shane #3(Blog)

Meeting Brooke was a special treat.  After hearing about her for two years it was a bit like reconnecting with an old friend.  She was just as sweet as Shane had described her and we were so happy to be part of their wedding day

Erica & Dennis #4 (Blog)May 28th marked our onlyErica & Dennis #1(Blog) (1)
Thursday wedding of the year. Weekday weddings may be a bit untraditional, but they are certainly growing in popularity among destination brides. They often bring friends and family to the coast for a celebration that lasts several days instead of just one night. I love beach house weddings for this reason.   Also, picking a “non-Saturday” date usually means a wider selection of vendors at reduced rates. Bonus!

Erica & Dennis #6 (Blog)Working with Erica was certainly fun. From the beginning this bride had a clear and creative vision, which included sparing no expense when it came to flowers and introducing a fun new color palate to our portfolio.  Just for fun, after the ceremony we switched lime and pink parasols for raspberry ones and took a few photos.   Wow, it’s amazing how a slight change in color palette can alter the look and feel of the set-up.
